Specialised Services

Sex Therapy

What Is Sex therapy?

Sex Therapy is about Choice and Control. What Is Sex therapy? Sex therapy is a range of services from education, counselling, Independence, advocation and your overall health and well-being.

" Sex Therapy is reasonable and necessary", says the federal court regarding NDIS funding approval in a nutshell.

Social Inclusivity is something we are so passionate about in many ways within Mana Wellness. Currently, we are offering advice/referrals and services in helping participants gain confidence in using your plan to meet your goals and Individual needs. This topic often causes confusion and shame, some participants may feel they can't communicate about having this incorporated in their lives or talk to their provider company or support worker. Please give us a call or fill in our contact form and we can talk through the process. Also, sex therapy is not just one thing it involves a range of services. Some participants may want to use non allocated NDIS funds to access participation within this industry Mana Wellness is here to support you.

Mana Wellness believes that those with a disability have the right to choose and seek a quality life, intimacy is not just sex it could mean supporting our clients in seeking meaningful relationships with finding a lifelong partner or exposure to opportunities to do so.

“We seek to not only live but think outside of the box”.

Currently, NDIS agree to the following, however with the new federal court ruling things are vastly changing on how this filed looks.

  • The NDIS can fund a family planner or sex therapist if it is related to your disability and considered ‘reasonable and necessary’ with your NDIS funds.
  • Your GP can suggest reputable family planners and sex therapists in your area, while Plan Management can help by giving you access to unregistered providers.
  • Family planners and sex therapists provide lots of useful advice and guidance on how you can engage in sexual activity; either by yourself or with a partner
  • Family planning and sex therapy can be funded under Support Category 15: Improved Daily Living
  • If your family planner or sex therapist believes that a piece of specialised equipment is necessary, have them record their recommendation in a formal letter. This will give you the best chance of having that approved by the NDIS.
  • If you’re using a Plan Manager, your family planner or sex therapist will need to ensure they don’t charge more than the NDIS price guide allows.
  • Set up a service agreement with your therapist to ensure you’re both in agreement as to how much you’ll be charged.
  • There are specialised family planning resources available to people with disabilities which can be funded under the NDIS.
